Although the main features of the eastern part of Croatia - Slavonia - are lowland, fertile plains. Once upon a time, these plains were actually the bottom of the Pannonian Sea, above which the mountains proudly rose to almost a thousand meters above sea level. One of these mountains is Papuk - the most beautiful mountain in Slavonia. Papuk is a mountain located in eastern Croatia, on the northern and northwestern border of the Požega Valley. Its highest peak of the same name is at 953 m. Papuk is characterized by a great forest wealth, in which beech and oak predominate, alongside maple, weak, and ash. There are birches, pines, and chestnuts on the sunny sides. There are bare rocks only in the lower parts and streambeds. Sokol's rocks (564 m) not far from Gornji Vrhovac are unusual for the Slavonian mountains, and in some places, they are bare, smooth, and almost vertical. Papuk with its indented ridges and bays, with lush vegetation, characteristic flora, and fauna, with plenty of spring water, and a dense network of roads, is a very suitable area for the development of mountain tourism.
